Light House Cinema
Market Square, Smithfield, Dublin 7

Dublin’s Light House Cinema is a grand spot for a limited release film, arthouse movies, foreign films or themed nights. In Smithfield, it doesn’t have the rushed feel of other city centre cinemas so it’s a much calmer and relaxed experience and the chairs are very, very comfy. Their café is also a nice spot to visit for an afternoon so you could do a lot worse for yourself than visit here.
What has it got?
Seating: They have spaces available for wheelchair users in every screen.
Doors: The front door normally has a security guard there so they can grab the door for you. Elsewhere, the doors are easy to open, even if they’re somewhat hard to find.
Stairs: They have a lift that goes to all three floors.
Ground: Wooden flooring and carpets.
Bathrooms: The wheelchair cubicle on the ground floor is quite tight for space, measuring 60×63 inches. The door opens inwards so it’s a very tight squeeze for a wheelchair. On level -2, there is a massive wheelchair bathroom, measuring 65×125 inches. You will need a code for the door and there’s always a member of staff close by. On level -3, the wheelchair cubicle measures 60×80 inches and the door opens inwards so it will be tight for larger wheelchairs.
Spaciousness: If there’s one thing Light House has, it’s loads of space. Roomy and then some.
Helpfulness of Staff: I didn’t need assistance because it was so easy to get around but I’m sure the staff are willing to give a hand when needed.
Parking: There is wheelchair parking beside the Maldron Hotel on Market Square and wheelchair parking in the car park beside the cinema.
Rating: 9.5/10
Why did it lose points? The wheelchair cubicles on the ground floor and level -3 are too tight but all of the space on -3 makes up for that. This is a gorgeous cinema to visit for an eve and you can catch some great movies, old and new, here.
